India Tops In IPv6 Adoption: Current data from Google shows that India has the highest IPv6 adoption rate globally, at 61%. IPv6 is Internet Protocol version 6 to commence. IP addresses, or Internet Protocol addresses, are used to identify computers and other devices on the Internet specifically.
In contrast to IPv6, which uses a 128-bit address space, IPv4 only uses 32 bits. We’ve upgraded to IPv6 now that we’ve used up all the available IPv4 addresses (4,3 billion).
Those on the subcontinent reading this may be familiar with the answer: Reliance Jio. Google’s adoption data show a rise in 2019 that we attribute to Jio Fiber.
Based on Akamai’s visualization of IPv6 data, Jio Fiber has the highest IPv6 adoption rate of any ISP in the world at 90%. However, Google and Akamai claim that adoption in India is 61%.
Bharati Airtel is ranked fourth with a 57.8 percent adoption rate, while Vodafone India is twelfth at 69.5 percent.
Malaysia ranks second, only behind the U.S., and ahead of France, Taiwan, the U.K., Vietnam, and Germany.
AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile are ranked third, sixth, and seventh in adoption rates by Google at 56.9%, 43.0%, and 88.5%, respectively.
However, data provided by Akamai shows that India has the highest adoption rate (61.5%), followed by Germany (47.7%), Belgium, and Malaysia.
IPv6 not only fixes the scarcity of available addresses, but also provides improved routing (lower latency), security, etc.
